Hello once more, Dear Reader!
Welcome to the third and final section of our debut issue! Now that we have explored the history of generation ships and delved deeper into the ideas behind them, we move on to the third and final theme that arose from our submissions: what about the planet we may seek to leave behind?
What does the present owe to the future? What obligations do we face in seeking to bring humanity to other worlds, when those worlds may already support life of their own? Should our resources be spent finding new planets to live on or cleaning up the one we already have? Can we reasonably do both? Should we?
This section of the issue kicks off with ‘How We Are Getting Ready for Humanity’s Greatest Challenge’ by Dr. Alfredo Carpineti, which will post to the website on 2 May 2018. The following evening, on 3 May 2018, we will host a Twitter Chat discussing the themes we’re exploring in ‘For Future Generations’. Sustainability, Science Fiction, and Spaceships! Oh my! The chat will kick off at 8pm, London time, and you can follow the discussion with #eaSFFchat. I do hope you’ll join us!
Until then!
